2023 Storm-damaged roads

The Roads and Airports Department is working as quickly as possible to permanently repair roads that were damaged during a series of winter storms from December through March.  Damage was concentrated in the Santa Cruz Mountains and San Antonio Valley east of Mount Hamilton. Roads staff is updating this webpage regularly to keep residents informed of the status of repairs.

The County Office of Communications and Public Affairs produced a video about the work Roads personnel did to protect the community during the 2022-23 winter storms.

Additional schedule considerations

Some road repair locations that involve the conveyance of water through pipes or the construction within natural drainage swales are experiencing schedule impacts due to resource agency permitting processing. Permits are required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board. The requirements for conducting environmental assessments, ascertaining potential ecological concerns, and mitigating any adverse effects may add delay to some permanent repair projects. The project team is actively working with the resources agencies and expert consultants to ensure compliance with all permitting requirements while finding efficient ways to expedite the restoration of the roads through temporary measures if necessary.
